1. Kroger Trims 2026 Same-Store Sales Outlook as Headwinds Mount
Kroger lowered its full-year identical-store sales growth forecast, excluding fuel, to 0.2%-0.8% from 1%-2%, citing Inflation Reduction Act pharmacy pricing pressure, high gas prices and a cyclospora outbreak. Q2 ID sales rose just 0.2% on $34.6B in total sales. EPS guidance holds at $5.10-$5.30, with ecommerce up 20%. (Read More)
2. Amazon Expands Shop the Show Across 8,000+ Prime Video Titles
Amazon is expanding its Shop the Show tool on Prime Video, which now spans more than 8,000 titles, up from 1,300. A new Shop Tab inside X-Ray lets viewers browse products tied to what’s on screen, while Shop the Scene uses Amazon Lens to identify outfits and dĂ©cor from scenes. Purchases are completed in the shopping app. (Read More)
3. Early Fall Chill to Spark Seasonal Demand Surge Across the U.S.
Planalytics says cooler-than-normal temperatures across many U.S. markets over the next two weeks will give consumers their first real taste of fall, lifting weather-driven demand for fall apparel, home comfort goods, comfort foods and indoor entertainment. Retailers should adjust inventory, promotions and marketing now. (Read More)
4. Walmart Adds Papa Johns to Express Delivery in Industry First
Walmart is adding Papa Johns to Express Delivery, making it the first national restaurant brand fulfilled entirely from locations outside Walmart stores. Ordering sits in the Walmart app’s restaurants tab, and orders can be bundled with groceries. The rollout begins in select markets this fall, expanding nationwide later. (Read More)
5. Macy’s Raises Full-Year Guidance as Q2 Comp Sales Jump 2.7%
Macy’s posted 2.7% comparable sales growth in its fiscal second quarter, its fifth straight quarterly gain, with Bloomingdale’s up 11.3% and Bluemercury up 6.2%. Reimagined stores drove much of the growth. The retailer raised full-year guidance, lifting its net sales view to $21.68-$21.83B and adjusted EPS to $2.15-$2.35. (Read More)
