Hello Omni Talk Fans! This week I wanted to go as deep as possible into the headlines, so I brought in two of the sharpest minds I know: Kelly Carey and Chad Lusk from the A&M Consumer and Retail Group.
It was also kind of a celebration because Chad just hit his five-year anniversary of his first appearance on the Fast Five. It is amazing how time flies, and had he not sprung it on me mid-podcast, I would have planned cake.
Next time!
Here’s a sweet taste of what we discussed this week:
- Amazon’s 30-minute delivery expansion:Â Chad gave it a 7 out of 10, and I asked, “Why so low?” Because what Amazon is really doing here is about psychologically rewiring what “normal” feels like, and slowly starving out every regional grocer in the process. The long game on this one is genuinely alarming if you’re not Amazon.
- Walmart’s secret neighborhood depots:Â Is it a coincidence that this broke two days after Amazon’s announcement? Absolutely not. In Chad’s immortal words, “Buckle up, buttercup.”
- Best Buy inside IKEA stores:Â This one received unanimous buy in from all three of us, and for good reason.
- Amazon’s Alexa for Shopping:Â Our producer Ella called it her favorite headline from a Gen Z lens. As usual, she wasn’t wrong.
- Everlane gets acquired by Shein for $100M:Â Can Shein buy ethics? Yes, Kelly asked that out loud, and thinking about the answer still has me going.
There’s all that, plus Kelly’s love for Mandalorians, Chad’s love for Italian hoagies, and my love for Troy from Reality Bites.
