I am excited to announce that Omni Talk is expanding its coverage and launching a new weekly podcast dedicated to the grocery industry. It will be called GrocerTalk, and will be hosted and produced by Ben Miller, formerly of Groceryshop and Shoptalk fame.

1. Amazon Fights New Mamdani-Backed NYC Delivery Worker Bill
A New York City bill backed by Mayor Zohran Mamdani would force Amazon to directly employ thousands of contracted couriers, ending third-party delivery arrangements that critics say shield it from liability. Sponsored by Council Member Tiffany Cabán, the Delivery Protection Act has majority support and could pass this fall. (Read More)
2. Walmart Gets First Symbotic SymMicro System in Back of Store
Symbotic has begun installing its first SymMicro back-of-store fulfillment system inside a Walmart store, with CEO Richard Cohen saying it should be running in about six months. A second site will follow shortly after, potentially triggering wider rollout under Walmart’s contingent pledge to purchase 400 automated systems. (Read More)
3. Primark Debuts Its First Minnesota Store Inside Mall of America
Primark enters Minnesota on Sept. 3 with a nearly 35,000-square-foot store at Mall of America, its 46th U.S. location across 15 states. The value retailer, which debuted in Indiana in July and opens a second greater Orlando site Aug. 20, will stock Vikings gear via its NFL tie-up alongside its signature budget pricing. (Read More)
4. Kroger Names Jet.com Co-Founder Nate Faust eCommerce Chief
Kroger has hired Jet.com co-founder and former Walmart e-commerce supply chain executive Nate Faust as its first chief e-commerce officer, effective Sept. 1. The appointment is the latest outside hire under CEO Greg Foran and follows a quarter in which Kroger’s online arm posted 19% growth and turned its first profit. (Read More)
5. Schnucks Launches AI Shopping Assistant, Interactive Weekly Ad
Schnuck Markets has launched two digital features: an AI shopping assistant built with VitalityIP that generates lists, meal ideas and nutrition guidance from over 6 billion lines of data, plus an interactive weekly ad allowing coupon clipping and cart additions. The 112-store grocer will keep offering printed ads too. (Read More)
