On its earnings call this past week, Costco Chief Financial Officer Richard Galanti told listeners during the Q&A section of the call that Costco has no plans to offer grocery curbside pickup to its members any time soon. “We don’t have our head in the sand on it, we look at it, we have people here who study it, maybe we’ll surprise you one day but at this juncture, we are not prepared to do that,” Galanti told the audience.
Well, newsflash for Galanti, it is time he returned the ostrich costume for Halloween because that is exactly what he and Costco are doing — burying their heads in the sand and hoping that the future will never come.
I asked Costco to share more light on its rationale, but Costco did not return my request in time for publication.
