Walmart announced yesterday that it plans to debut its new Walmart+ subscription service on September 15, 2020. For $98 per year, Walmart+ members will have access to a number of shopping benefits with Walmart, including an Amazon AMZN -0.2% Prime-like “unlimited” amount of free deliveries from its stores.
The announcement, from a shareholder’s perspective, was well worth the wait, too. Walmart’s stock has traded at a 52-week high since the announcement and has seen as much as a $24 billion value boost, according to CNBC.
There is much to love about Walmart’s new Walmart+ subscription program. More on the long-term implications later, but just by September alone, Walmart has already put in place three compelling aspects to the program that will give Amazon one heck of a run for its money.
