Days after Aldi announced it would acquire some 400 Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket stores from Jacksonville-based Southeastern Grocers, it’s now clear that one of the stores’ departments won’t be part of the deal: its pharmacies.
Instead, that business will go to CVS and Walgreens, in agreements made before the announced sale to Aldi, the German-owned discount supermarket chain known for its no-frills stores with low prices.
“Prior to the closing of the proposed merger agreements recently announced, Southeastern Grocers has entered into agreements to transfer prescription files to certain CVS Pharmacies and Walgreens,” Meredith Hurley, senior drector of Communications & Community for Southeastern Grocers, told the Times-Union in an emailed statement.
