Dollar General has crossed the border into Mexico, opening its first store outside the United States.
The discounter has made its international debut with the opening of Mi Súper Dollar General in Escobedo, Nuevo León (Mexico.) The brand, which resonated well with consumer focus groups, connotes the idea of a general store focused on serving customers with the products they want and need most, the company stated.
The new store was developed with a customer-first focus, according to a release. Each Mi Súper Dollar General will include financial services, a bakery and a tortilleria. Products are sourced primarily from Mexico, with an assortment that includes fresh produce, health and beauty products, home cleaning supplies, pet care, housewares, stationary and other household essentials.
