The torch has been passed a little earlier than expected.
Laxman Narasimhan, who joined Starbucks as incoming CEO on Sept. 1, 2022, has officially taken as chief executive, effective Monday, March 20, 2023. Narasimhan, who was initially slated to take the reins from interim CEO Howard Schultz (who previously served as CEO of Starbucks from 1986 to 2000 and then again from 2008 to 2017 before agreeing to serve as interim chair in April 2022) on April 1, 2023.
By taking over the position nearly two weeks earlier than expected, Narasimhan will lead Starbucks’ annual shareholder meeting on Thursday, where he will make his first official remarks as the company’s CEO.
