Donda 2 debuted yesterday in Miami, but in even bigger news Ye and Demna have chosen 2.23.2022 as the moment to release their highly anticipated Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga collection, first previewed at the event and now debuting online here. The 25-look lineup merges Ye’s oversized silhouette and penchant for face coverings with Demna’s pointed shoulders and other couture-ish shapes. The first eight looks will be available for order on yeezygap.com and Farfetch today with the full collection dropping later this year.
Back when the collaboration was announced, Ye told Vogue, “it is a vision come true to work with Gap and Demna, the creative director of Balenciaga, to make incredible product available to everyone at all times.” Ye’s partnership with Gap, where he has so far released the round jacket puffer and a series of colorful hoodies, is a 10-year deal. Demna is the first major collaborator Ye has brought on to Gap, though the pair have worked together on creative direction for Donda and merch in the past.
“This is a very different challenge,” Demna said of taking on a Yeezy Gap sensibility. “I’ve always appreciated the utilitarianism and the accessibility of Gap. I share some of the same sensibilities in my creative language. This project allowed me to join forces [with Ye] to create utilitarian fashion for all.”
