Mercari has eyed growth in the U.S. since it became available here in 2014, carving out market share among competitors like Poshmark, eBay and OfferUp. The app has now been downloaded in the U.S. more than 50 million times and has roughly 350,000 new listings added daily, according to the company.
“When you think about the traditional American garage sale, it’s as much about connecting with your neighbors as it is about decluttering and cleaning out your space,” John Lagerling, Mercari U.S. CEO, said in a statement. “Our exciting new partnership with Uber now offers an even easier way to buy and sell almost anything, making resale even more accessible for people across the U.S.”
Uber’s partnership with Mercari expands on Uber Direct’s capabilities. The company announced the launch of Uber Direct in April 2020 along with Uber Connect, a service that allows users in select cities send care packages to loved ones. Besides Mercari, Uber has also partnered with other companies, including GoPuff and Costco.
