The new MRKT-branded outlets use an electronic gate, computer vision technology and a system of sensors to enable consumers to purchase items and leave the store without having to produce a physical payment device, such as a credit card.
Installation of the system was announced this week by Delaware North, the owner and operator of TD Garden, which described the move as ‘a first of its kind in the City of Boston’.
Contactless payment systems are fast becoming commonplace at major sports venues as operators seek to eliminate checkout queues, improve the spectator experience and create a safer environment for returning fans in the wake of the pandemic.
