The Canadian subsidiary of Walmart is teaming up with a third-party provider to pilot a delivery-only, digital kitchen.
Walmart Canada is partnering with scalable “ghost kitchen” (the popular term for a digital kitchen that only fulfills digital food orders) platform Ghost Kitchen Brands to offer one-stop meal pickup and delivery at a store in St. Catharines, Ontario. The retailer plans to open more ghost kitchens at two Ontario stores and two Quebec stores in the coming months.
Customers can order freshly prepared meals in-store and online for contactless pickup or delivery from a third-party app such as Uber Eats, and mix and match from more than 20 brands including: Quiznos, The Cheesecake Factory Bakery, Red Bull, Nescafé, and Ben & Jerry’s, with more being added. All meals are prepared in one kitchen for one pickup or delivery.
