American Dream, the shopping and entertainment complex in the New Jersey Meadowlands, now has the ingredient it needs to be called a mall – stores.
American Dream’s owners don’t like the word mall. Ever since developers Triple Five took over the star-crossed project in 2011, they have preferred to call it a shopping, entertainment, and tourism destination.
Ken Downing, the project’s chief creative officer, lately has been calling it an “all” – saying it has something for everyone.
But the point of all that “all” – the indoor amusement park, water park, ski slope and other attractions – always was to lure crowds that would shop at the stores.
